The Institute for Applied Economic Research (Ipea), in collaboration with the Maastricht Economic and social Research and training centre on Innovation and Technology (UNU-MERIT), is announcing the Third Conference on Micro Evidence on Innovation in Developing Economies (MEIDE), to be held in Rio de Janeiro in May 10-12, 2009. The aim of the conference is to bring together researchers from around the world to discuss the importance and the different dimensions of innovation in relation with economic growth and development. Contributions based on micro data from firm or household surveys, case studies and cross country comparative analyses are particularly wanted.
In this third Conference, a particular emphasis will be put on innovation and its impacts in Latin American Countries. However, contributions on other countries, in particular developing countries, are also welcome.
Many countries have conducted micro surveys on innovation for a number of years. It would be interesting to confront what has been learned from these surveys, and from case studies, to guide innovation policy.

Submission: Researchers are invited to submit a full paper by March 2, 2009. Please submit by clicking on “submit your paper” on the website http://www.merit.unu.edu/MEIDE/. Upon acceptance of your paper, a formal invitation form will be sent to you for application of visas to Brazil, if need be.
Important: In this third conference, there will be also “PhD Sessions”. These sessions are aimed at PhD students in early or in the qualifying stage of their programs or researchers willing to discuss research proposals. In this case, the author must submit an extended abstract (max. 5 pages).
Important dates
Article submission deadline: March 2, 2009
Notification of acceptance: until March 16, 2009 for full papers, March 23, 2009 for the PhD sessions.
